Building Your Values-Based Baby Registry: Bath Time

Building Your Values-Based Baby Registry: Bath Time

Bathing that little newborn is a little wild, honestly! When they are teeny tiny our pediatrician just recommended we do a little sponge bath (use a soft warm wash cloth and just lightly pat our daughter - no soap). When she was a few weeks old we shifted to the sink before eventually graduating to the bath tub. Here are some of the things that worked for US but I’ve heard from multiple parents that some kids (and some bathrooms!) work better with other options (and there are a trillion to choose from!) I say that so you don’t find yourself frustrated if one thing that worked for us doesn’t end up working for you and your babe.

Infant Sink Bath Pad

Blooming Bath Lotus Pad $39

We used this soft little insert for the first 3-4 months in our kitchen sink. We would wet it with warm water and it worked great. However, that’s a pretty short use window so if you don’t want to purchase something that will only be used for a few months, you could probably just skip to the next option.

Baby Bath Tub Seat

Anglecare Baby Bath Support $19

This is a great little seat for babies that aren’t sitting up on their own yet. As I mentioned above, you could definitely just START with this and skip the Lotus Pad if you’d rather. It felt more comfortable for me to have our daughter in the sink while she was so tiny though.

She DID still use it for a few weeks after sitting up on her own but once she was stable enough she was fine in the tub without any supports.

Tub Spout Cover

Lalo Spout Cover $15

Skip Hop Bath Spout Cover - Moby $14

Having a tub spout cover is pretty important so your babe doesn’t accidentally bonk their noggin. You will almost undoubtedly see the famous whale “Moby” in bathrooms with toddlers (including my own) but I was recently introduced to this beautiful one from Lalo, which I wish I had gotten. Our daughter shares a bathroom with her teenage brother and guests so the whale aesthetic throws the vibes off a bit. ;)

Bath Mat

HEVEA Rubber Bath Mat $28

Target Slipz Solutions Rubber Bathtub Mat $25

Have you spent hours researching bath mats? No? Just me, then? Hmm. Well, I found this particular item incredibly hard to shop for. It had to be the correct size for my tub and I didn’t want anything that was made with potentially harmful chemicals. Rubber mats seemed to be the answer but they are harder to find. Make sure whatever you decide to get is machine washable because that’s one way to ensure it stays safe for your little one. So many get mildew-y if you don’t clean them often.

Cute Baby Towel

SDK Designs Hooded Bath Towel - $49

Organic Burt’s Bees Baby Hooded Towel - 2pk $26

I couldn’t believe how quickly our daughter outgrew her infant bath towels. Our favorite local children’s goods shop, Hop Scotch, had these adorable hand-made animal towels that make me smile after every single bath. They are made locally in Grand Rapids, MI (where we live) so I’m a big fan.

If you’re using Baby List for your registry, you can add local items like this directly from your list which is such a nice perk.

Infant Brush

DermaFrida The SkinSoother Baby Bath Silicone Brush by Fridababy $9

This silicone brush by BabyFrida worked so well to relieve our daughters cradle cap. We still use these to brush her hair and she’s over a year old!

Infant/Toddler Brush Set

Kyte Baby 3-Piece Brush Set $25

Is it ridiculous to cry over the pure preciousness of these little brushes? TOO LATE. This little set is next on my list of purchases because, besides being so dang cute, it’s from Kyte Baby which has become one of my favorite brands. All their products are ethically and responsibly made with bamboo, one of the most sustainable resources in the world.

Super Soft Washclothes

Keababies Deluxe Baby Bamboo Washcloths - 6pk $15

Baby skin is SO delicate! You’re going to want super soft wash clothes. I don’t have this exact brand, but I might buy some to replace the ones I do have. These are made from organic bamboo and are highly rated.

Shampoo & Body Wash

Pipette Baby Shampoo & Body Wash $8

I was looking for products that didn’t contain things like sulfates, fragrance, artificial dyes, BHA, parabens and other potentially harmful ingredients. The internet and my sister led me to the same place: Pipette!

We did purchase Pipette baby oil and body lotion as well but we hardly use them. They are nice to have on hand but not essential.

Other optional items you might want to consider adding to your registry:

  • Bath Toys - This is another area where we have been careful to avoid items that may contain toxic chemicals or that will easily grow bacteria. We only use 1-3 toys and wash them after most baths. [i.e. PlanToys Bath Toys ]

  • A Water Pouring Cup - We just use a non-breakable cup from our kitchen but if you’d rather have a dedicated scoop, there are a variety of options. [i.e. Frida Baby Control the Flow Rinser $10]

  • A Baby Bathrobe - I mean, is there anything cuter then a tiny tot with a little bathrobe on? Not much! BUT, from my experience, it’s really just for looks. This is definitely not a necessary item but if you can’t stand the thought of missing out on that cuteness, go for it!
